Sports Team

ARTICLE BY JESSE MEDINA

Note: This is the debut of our monthly featured article regarding bands that are coming into town that have never played in Los Angeles before. We kick things off with London's own Sports Team. Enjoy!

The first thing that you’ll notice when you listen to a Sports Team song, a band from West London, is their sound is influenced by the 90’s Brit-pop scene, and the early aughts self-aware indie rock scene. Sports Team are not indebted to the scenes that provided them with their influences. This is largely due to Alex Rice’s witty, sardonic lyrics about everyday life, which are delivered in a playful, aloof manner by the lead singer. The lyrics are complemented by very charismatic and fun music that is something we need from out new rock bands. Sports Team reminds you that you don’t have to take yourself seriously as a band to be taken seriously by the music listener.

Sports Team are known in England for their unhinged, spontaneous live performances that seem to win over even the biggest skeptics and fans here will get a chance to experience their live performance when they make their live LA debut at Bardot on Monday, June 17. RSVP now for their first local gig here at It's A School Night! and get acquainted with their stand out tracks: "Beverly Rose," "Kutcher," and "Get Along" so that you too can sing along.
