The supergroup consisting of Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn, The Clash's Paul Simonon, The Verve's Simon Tong, and Nigerian Afrobeat legend Tony Allen as The Good, The Bad, and The Queen have come out with a video for this, the lead single called "Merrie Land." They announced the release of this new record (also named Merrie Land) which is out on November 16th a few days back. It's produced by long-time Bowie producer, Tony Visconti, who revealed to NME back in January, "It’s a great album and I think people will be very impressed with it." We are elated to hear the rest!
According to a statement regarding the new album, it was written: "during the current period in which the U.K. is preparing to leave the European Union – creating a reluctant good-bye letter, a series of observations and reflections on Britishness in 2018." We just can't imagine what it would be like to be going through something as politically divisive like Brexit… Oh, wait…
Also, some sleuthing individual on Reddit pointed out that the record's art is a still from the 1945 cult-tastic anthology-horror film Dead of Night.
They’re scheduled to perform next week on BBC's Later… with Jools Holland so check YouTube then to get a little peek at their current live show, even if the only tour dates scheduled at this time are in the U.K. Maybe they'll play Coachella 2019?
