The Sundance NEXT FEST—described as "Park City's cool, weird little sister who tore out her braids at a stop-light and left Utah for California in a rusty maroon Le Sabre"—has announced this year's lineup. Held at the Theatre at the Ace Hotel from Friday, August 7, to Sunday, August 9, the film festival pairs an independent movie with a "special music performance that embodies a shared artistic sensibility."
On Friday, August 7, Mistress America, the new Noah Baumbach film starring Greta Gerwig, will screen, followed by a music performance with Sky Ferreira. On Saturday, August 8, Entertainment, starring Michael Cera and John C. Reilly, will screen, followed by a performance with Sharon Van Etten. And on Sunday, August 9, sci-fi action film Turbo Kid will screen, followed by a DJ battle between Neon Indian and Toro Y Moi.
There also will be an afternoon screening for Finders Keepers with directors Bryan Carberry and J. Clay Tweel on August 8 at 3:30 p.m., and Cronies with director Michael Larnell will screen on August 9 at 3:30 p.m. In addition, there will be a kick-off event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Sunday, August 2, with the screening of Cop Car, starring Kevin Bacon.
