R.I.P. Gibson Amphitheatre 1972 – 2013

Gibson Amphitheatre

Bad news for fans of the Gibson Amphitheatre (AKA the Universal Amphitheatre). The Universal City venue will say good-bye in September at the end of its lease in order to make room for Universal Studios Hollywood‘s The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter.

For shows scheduled after September, Live Nation will attempt to relocate those events, and ticketholders are advised to hold on to their tickets until further notice. There will be a big farewell concert to celebrate the Gibson Amphitheatre‘s long history of amazing shows at the venue, and we’ll keep you posted on details of the farewell show. Which were your favorite shows at the Gibson Amphitheatre? 106.7 KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas? Beastie Boys? Coldplay? The Cure? Depeche Mode? Gorillaz? Bob Marley? Nine Inch Nails? No Doubt?     Wow, didn’t really care for it sonically but enjoyed many Acoustic Christmas’s and early shows in the pit with Beasties in ’92, Travis in 2001 and Echo and the Bunnymen in ’86 when a hammered Ian fell off the stage with a cigarette in his mouth.

    Wow! I remember when it was open air venue and I saw the first of the Elton John solo shows there. The last show of Oingo Boingo and last year’s Ariborne Toxic Event Show. Not great for parking but the sound is better than anything over in the Nokia area.
