If you go to a lot of shows in Los Angeles, you start getting to know the people that make these concerts happen. Not just the bookers, promoters or managers behind closed doors, but people you see every time you walk up to the venue such as the doormen/women, will call workers, ticket takers, merch person, flyer distributers, your favorite bartender and more.
We wanted to let our readers get to know a few of these people you might run into going to your next show that we’ve gotten to know over the years. Our first subject for this feature is a face we see every time we head over to Pomona for a show, Erick Palma of the Glass House!
Here’s our brief chat with Erick Palma about his role at the Glass House and other fun facts:
SS: What is your title at the Glass House and/or Fox Theater?
Erick Palma: I’m the Glass House General Manager and CFO. I just help with the Fox.
SS: We’ve also seen you around at Coachella working the past few years. What is your role in helping out at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival?
Erick Palma: At Coachella, I worked as Paul Toullett’s (head of Goldenvoice) runner for four years and the last two years I worked in the Artist Liason. This year I worked the Outdoor Stage.
SS: What’s your favorite part about working at the Glass House besides “Pizza Mondays”?
Erick Palma: My favorite thing about working at the Glass House is making memories in people lives. Where a kid can leave all the bullshit of life at the door and have fun listening to music.
SS: Is there anything crazy that you’ve witnessed at while working either venue?
Erick Palma: Too many crazy stories to tell. My favorite is still when the power went out 10 minutes before doors for Bauhaus. And when MF Doom pulled a no show. I went on stage and almost had to fight off the whole crowd. One time Cafe Tacuba played the Glass House and it was raining hard. The roof started leaking on the stage while the band was playing. They even stop playing because of it!
SS: Any advise for anyone going to a show at the Fox Theater/Glass House.
Erick Palma: Come to Pomona and don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes along with your cool vibes.
You can catch Erick Palma on show dates in Pomona working the door at the Glass House as well as roaming the front of the Fox Theater making sure things are taken care of. He’s one of the nicest guys we know so feel free to say hello. At Coachella, be on the lookout for Erick Palma driving artists around in his golf cart but also taking a mandatory Spicy Pie break (pictured) at the festival.
