The Scenestar came across Boston based Arms and Sleepers in late 2009 on a particularly still and dark evening while tuned into to DirtyRadio. Max Lewis and Mirza Ramic, are a downtempo, electronic-experimental duo who manage to weave atmospheric soundscpaes, which are often times reminiscent of early Sigur-Ros or The Album Leaf. The latest release Matador, implies the weightless sensation of being strung a long gentle tones that could easily find themselves nestled within a film score. These ethereal moments are summoned in tracks layered with rich textures of crackling particles alongside movement from fictitious contraptions that manage to tingle the very core of the eardrum. There resides a tender narrative in these pieces, streaming emotional tones of bitter sweet memories that fade into monochromatic horizons. Take for example, the intro "Orly" clocking in at just over one minute, it gracefully sets the stage towards a slow decent into the title track "Matador". The rest of the album possess a nice balance of ambient instrumentation and vocals which never seems to arbitrarily overstep their boundaries, but rather guide the listener by a ghostly hand.
The Scenestar recently contributed to Arms And Sleepers Kickstart tour fund and received a nice package of goodies (pictured here) consisting of post cards, pins, lyric sheet, and a signed copy of the Japanese edition of Matador, as a gesture of thanks for supporting the cause. We’d like to extend the awareness of their up coming SoCal shows and hope to see you at the L.A. stop.
