Thom Yorke Schedules U.S. Tour

You can now add Thom Yorke to the list of artists playing shows before their Coachella appearance!

For those of you who missed Radiohead's show at the Henry Fonda Music Box, you can still get your Radiohead fix in April by catching Thom Yorke live at Coachella on Sunday, April 18, along with these new shows just added before Coachella.

The Atoms For Peace tour was just announced through W.A.S.T.E., with dates scheduled in major cities across the U.S. in April. Tickets to see Thom Yorke will be sold via presale through W.A.S.T.E. on March 2 for the Roseland Ballroom New York and Citi Wang Theatre Boston shows, March 3 for Aragon Ballroom Chicago and Santa Barbara Bowl (at 10:00am PST) and March 4 for the Oakland Fox Theater shows. Tickets to the general public will be sold through Ticketmaster (except the Citi Wang Theatre show). Citi Wang Theatre goes on sale March 5; Roseland Ballroom, Aragon Ballroom and Santa Barbara Bowl are on sale March 6; and Oakland Fox Theater on March 7. Of course, tickets to see Thom Yorke at Coachella are already on sale. Whew! Yes, that's a lot of information. Flying Lotus is the opener for this tour.

    Is anyone else’s annoyance with Coachella growing?? Great groups like this (and Spoon) are touring, but they either don’t want to — or are restricted from — scheduling SCAL dates except for Coachella.
    Coachella is 2 hours away from L.A., roasting hot, and currently costs more than $300 from evil Ticketmaster since no single-day passes have yet been released!
    Seriously, this is so wrong.

Some bands take advantage of being paid to come to California and add dates in San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and even some close by then come back later that year. Some bands don’t at all because it’s a one off (Example: Portishead) & that’s part of the magic of Coachella.
    Sometimes shows here take 2 hours to get to with traffic, parking, etc. Last year it was hotter in LOS ANGELES than in Indio the weekend of Coachella. You can always buy tickets at the El Rey or Glass House with NO FEES. That might help. Also no single day passes this year. Single day passes are not the norm. Usually Glastonbury, Bonnaroo and alot of the big festivals sell only festival passes. Coachella is not for everyone but in terms of experience and more bang for your buck, we think Coachella is the way to go.
    We’ll post as many dates around California and Vegas from Coachella bands as we can but it’s not guaranteed they’ll all do a show around the festival or maybe even anywhere else at all (Fever Ray, Whitest Boy Alive, Sly & The Family Stone, etc). Expect a good number to come back in the summer or fall. We expect Coachella to sell all their tickets pretty soon so if you haven’t bought your tickets, we would as soon as you can afford to.     exactly coachella is not for everyone, so seeing your favorite band shouldn’t force you to have to attend coachella. but since they make the bands sign an agreement stating they won’t play an LA show anytime around coachella most of us who aren’t into festivals (and shortened festival sets) don’t get to see the band that year (oru tour). so i’m in agreement with kelly’s annoyance. people are still going to go to coachella even if jay-z or edward sharpe or anyone else is playing LA show.

    Jay-Z is already playing an L.A. show and Edward Sharpe plays in L.A. all the time so those might not be the best examples. The main draw was Paul McCartney last year so you knew he wasn’t going to play L.A. till around now (2010). He’s now playing at the Hollywood Bowl which looks to be a tougher and pricier ticket than Coachella was last year. Leonard Cohen, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, The Presets, Beirut, etc aren’t opening at the Hollywood Bowl as far as we know at $120 a ticket. All these bands except Beirut played L.A. before then or eventually did after the festival.
    Coachella brings alot great and unique bands including reunions (Pixies, Daft Punk, Portishead, Rage Against The Machine) that people want to see and Goldenvoice foots the bill to get them to Southern California so of course they would control who does and doesn’t play around the area based on what would or wouldn’t hurt sales of the festival which is understandable. Bands who wouldn’t normally schedule a tour here are playing around Coachella thanks to the festival bringing them here.
    Sometimes it’s not up to Goldenvoice and the band might only want to play Coachella and not want to play in L.A. that week choosing to instead hang out the rest of the weekend to see the bands in the lineup. We’ll never really know but it’s something to consider. Either way as Los Angelinos we’re spoiled by how many great shows we get in our city. Some cities would gladly trade in a heartbeat what we get in a month VS what they get in a year. Who knows what acts will play “secret” shows in Los Angeles but we’ll see pretty soon…

    We’re pretty pro-Los Angeles venue shows AND Coachella. I think that being near Los Angeles and Coachella bringing the bands to Southern California helps both out. Most bands that play the festival comeback or it helps fund the band’s tour to be able to return. Where do you think Daft Punk got their stage when they came back to Los Angeles to play the Sports Arena? We love both festivals and bands playing in venues though. It’s true, we want the instant gratification to see the bands play here in L.A. in April when they’re already nearby but the patience to see them in the summer or fall is a tough one if you don’t go to Coachella.

Where do you think Daft Punk got their stage when they came back to Los Angeles to play the Sports Arena? We love both festivals and bands playing in venues though. It’s true, we want the instant gratification to see the bands play here in L.A. in April when they’re already nearby but the patience to see them in the summer or fall is a tough one if you don’t go to Coachella.

    We’re pretty pro-Los Angeles venue shows AND Coachella. I think that being near Los Angeles and Coachella bringing the bands to Southern California helps both out. Most bands that play the festival comeback or it helps fund the band’s tour to be able to return.     Thanks for the responses, Scenestar. Also, thanks for keeping all of us informed of these “secret” shows that hopefully Spoon and Thom Yorke and other groups will play in the L.A. area.
    You’re right — as Los Angelinos, we are spoiled, which I guess makes it more frustrating. Plus, it’s SO insulting to not offer single-day passes in such a down economy.
    It’s hard for me to believe that many of these groups would simply not come to Los Angeles without Coachella – especially with article after article confirming that artists are making more money from live shows than album sales. And if you want to pack a theater, Los Angeles is not a city to miss.
    I guess Coachella is just not for me and never will be. The one year I went (for Radiohead and Pixies in 2004, when single-day passes were still available), it was tortuously hot and disorganized. Almost no shaded areas, and small waters costs $5 when all you could do to avoid heat stroke was to down water the whole time the sun was out. I’ll save my money for Austin City Limits, which I’ve attended for the past two years. It’s SO well organized, and much more affordable ($160 in advance for the three-day festival). It can be just as hot as Coachella, but there’s lots of cheap water available, plenty of shaded areas, misters and fans, AND unlike Coachella, you can bring in your own water bottles and ice in a cooler. I’m sure Coachella has gotten better since I last went in 2004, but I still see on the website that no outside food or beverages are allowed in, which again, is just taking advantage of music lovers who have already spent almost 3 bills.
