In a year of musical tragedy, we lost yet another musical artist this weekend. Titus Glover, AKA Baatin of Detroit hip hop collective Slum Village has passed at the age of 35.
Baatin is the second member of Slum Village to pass following the death of James Yansey better known as Jay Dee or J Dilla from TTP and complications with lupus. Complete details concerning Baatin's death remain unknown at press time.
Baatin had recently reunited with the now remaining original member of Slum Village, T3, Elzhi and J Dilla's little brother Illa J for a new album scheduled to come out on September 22nd, Villa Manifesto. Their current single off the new album, "Cloud 9", is currently on rotation. Our thoughts and players here at the Scenestar go out to the Slum Village family. A benefit will be held Sunday at 5 Elements Gallery at 2125 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48216 in Corktown at 8pm. Donations will be accepted R.I.P. Baatin 1974 – July 31st, 2009
