The last evening of 2008 is almost upon us, and with it comes the expectation to do something spectacular to ring in the new year.
If you are still trying to figure out your options (which don’t include sitting in front of the TV watching Ryan Seacrest), we have compiled a list of music happenings for your perusal and musical enjoyment. Cheers!
If you want to go big, KCRW presents GIANT Maximus in Downtown L.A. Headliner Moby will do a DJ set, and there will also be appearances from Paul Oakenfold, Mark Farina, Franki Chan, and more. Tickets are $75 and available through GrooveTickets.
Another big DJ event is happening at the Roosevelt Hotel with DJ sets from Perry Farrell and Kele Okereke (of Bloc Party) and many more. Tickets are a steep $125 through GrooveTickets.
Mattie Safer of The Rapture will DJ at the Viper Room’s NYE’s bash, along with LA Riots, Congorock, Dances With White Girls and Them Jeans. Tickets start at $50 through Ticketweb.
If clubs and glowsticks aren’t your thing, down at Spaceland will be a cornucopia of local favorites to help rock in 2009: The Henry Clay People, Pity Party, and Happy Hollows. Tickets are $10 and available through Ticketweb.
Another option in nearby Echo Park will be The Blood Arm and We Are the World, with a DJ set by Eddie Argos (of Art Brut). Tickets are $10 and available through Ticketweb.
Club Nokia will celebrate with Stone Temple Pilots; spiffy attire optional, but you don’t want to be outshined by the band now do you? Tickets start at $75 through Ticketmaster.
