Cure
We kept hearing rumors all week that The Cure would be performing at the Troubadour on Saturday, Dec. 13… And looks like those rumors were in fact true! (We thought the whole Jon Thomas Band show was fishy.) Robert Smith and company will perform a free show at the legendary West Hollywood venue tonight. Details below.

SATURDAY DECEMBER 13, 2008
FREE! ALL AGES!
Doors @ 8:00 PM @ The Troubadour
9081 Santa Monica Boulevard West Hollywood, CA
(310) 276-1158
PLEASE NOTE:
There will be no line ups allowed before noon on Saturday. If you line up before then, you will be asked to leave. As always, this show is first come first served.

Wristbands will be given at 12 p.m.

yes. it’s a long story, but i was able to get in. the show was mind blowing. they played for nearly 3 hours, the perfect combination of old and new. something i’ll never forget…
also met brandon flowers there 🙂

I heard it wasn’t terribly difficult to get in. Either people didn’t know, or they were discouraged by the possibility of a large crowd.

it wasn’t terribly difficult to get a wristband if you were on the ball, but they only gave 150 of them out. the rest of capacity was VIP list. in that sense, the nature of the show was incredibly misleading. if you didn’t get one of those 150 you were out of luck (generally speaking).
but yes, overall there were far less people trying to get in than you might have expected. probably because it wasn’t publicized well, and very last minute.

not a fan of porl playing the synth parts of the quirkier pop songs like “lovecats” with his guitar. minor quibble though, the show was great.

my point is that far less than even half of the 450 capacity went to commoners. that would make this a VIP event (2:1), not a free-to-the-public event, as it was advertised. i just know a lot of people wasted a lot of time, mainly due to hope that wouldn’t have been there had this been better organized.
i have no complaints about the show itself, however.

It didn’t look like the remaining 300 were taken up by the VIPs. The floor wasn’t that packed and you can’t fit 300 VIPs upstairs. Troubadour management probably wanted to keep things spacious for the sake of all the high profile VIPs (celebs and musicians). If it’s any consolation, security did let some of the wristbandless fans who were begging at the door. Had myspace given a weeks notice, there would’ve been a huge riot of fans trying to get in and most would’ve been turned away. In any case, myspace secret shows advertises that the announcements come no more than 2 days before the actual show.
