The Cure’s new album is beginning to have the same number of delays as Guns N Roses’ Chinese Democracy. (When is that album ever coming out? Does anyone care anymore?)
Originally due in early 2007, then this fall, the new Cure album is now expected next spring! The still untitled release is planned to be a double-disc set. In a Billboard interview, Smith said, “Whenever I think we’re finishing it, it becomes something else. We recorded all 33 backing tracks with scratch vocals last April, May and June. Then I took a break to kind of knock the words into shape and figure out which of these songs are going to make the album.”
The band also has cited its work on the Festival 2005 DVD and its current worldwide tour as reasons for the new album’s delay.
In the meantime, you can listen to all those good oldies (and maybe hear some new songs) when The Cure performs at the Hollywood Bowl on October 14. Tickets are on sale now.
